Support from the Regione Campania for EnergyMed2005, Exhibition/Meeting on Renewable
Sources and Energy Efficiency in Mediterranean Countries
A hundred and eighty thousand Euros to internationalise EnergyMed2005, an Exhibition/Meeting on Renewable Sources and Energy Efficiency to be held from 14th to 16th April at the Mostra d’Oltremare.
The Regione has committed itself to this sum in order to support an event which may well be one of the most important meetings dedicated to energy derived from renewable sources, through Sprint Campania, its office dedicated to the internationalisation of firms. The money will be spent on improving communication and awareness nationally and internationally, and on hospitality throughout the fair for the foreign press and buyers from the Mediterranean and those countries which have recently joined the European Union. The objective is to enable exhibitors to exchange information about various real-life situations, not only in Italy but also in other countries, and thus extend their markets. Indeed, the space provided by the Regione at the exhibition will indirectly become a further show-case for participants who will be able to acquire clients much further afield than Campania.
The Regione Campania has been pursuing this policy for years through Sprint Campania, an office set up through the joint efforts of the Regione Campania, the Ministry for Productive Enterprise, ICE (the National Institute for Foreign Trade), SACE (the Institute for Foreign Trade Insurance). SIMEST (the Italian Organization for Firms Abroad) and Campania’s Chambers of Commerce. The aim of Sprint Campania is the internationalisation of firms.
The meeting with exhibitors, held in the Meeting Room of the Regione’s
premises at the Centro Direzionale in Naples, was attended by Gianfranco
Alois, head of Productive Enterprise at the Regione Campania,
Rosario Spatafora, in charge of Energy and Sustainable
Mobility at the Province of Benevento, Bartolomeo Sciannimanica,
Director of the Environment Department and Energy Manager at the Municipality
of Naples, Vincenzo Guerriero, in charge of Measure 1.12
of the Campania Regione’s 2000-2006 budget, Edoardo Imperiale,
Director of Sprint Campania, Michele Macaluso, Director
of ANEA (the Energy and Environment Agency of Naples), and Gennaro
Improta from the University of Naples Federico II.
“EnergyMed2005 is an opportunity to go beyond the boundaries of Campania,” says Alois. “We are focussing on foreign companies and organizations to open up the Mediterranean market and increase both quantity and quality.” He pointed out that the event will be the culmination of years of work and added “in order to grow it is necessary to follow the whole energy-production process step by step. Moreover, EnergyMed must become a regular event in the calendar of fairs in Campania”.
Bartolomeo Sciannimanica, an engineer and Energy Manager of the Municipality of Naples, stressed the importance of photovoltaic and solar heating, which are extremely promising renewable sources in a city like Naples. “We have already set up an experimental biomass plant with ENEA and ANEA at Parco Ventaglieri,” he explained, “and are working on a solar-powered heating system for the Scandone Swimming Pool, and a 200Kw photovoltaic plant for the Canzanella market”.
Rosario Spatafora, representing the Province of Benevento, described the commitment of the Province which was the first in Campania to approve an energy plan for the area. “We have carefully monitored the needs of the area and know what energy consumption will be for the next ten years. We are counting not only on greater saving and the correct use of energy, but also on increased production of wind and hydro-electric power, which are renewable sources particularly suited to our territory.”
Vincenzo Guerriero explained Measure 1.12 of the Regione Campania which allocates 240 million Euros to support firms which produce energy.
Finally, the Director of ANEA, Michele Macaluso, described the rich programme of events, stressing not only the importance of the fair, but also of the numerous other interesting subsidiary activities lined up, particularly training courses, seminars and workshops which will be held in the course of EnergyMed2005.
